Devlet memuru hüviyetindeki imamların, resmi nikah cüzdanını görmeden nikah kıyamayacaklarını belirten Ünal, `Küçük yaşta evlilikler genelde Doğu ve Güneydoğu`da yaygın. Buralarda halk, resmi imamlar yerine; kendisini `imam` diye tarif eden, `mele` denilen bu insanlara itibar ediyor; nikahları da bunlara kıydırıyor` dedi. Ünal, Diyanet`e bağlı imamların küçük yaşta çocuklara dini nikah kıymaları halinde, hapis cezasından memuriyetten atılmaya varan oranlarda ceza alacaklarını vurguladı. Ünal, küçücük çocukların oyun parklarına götürülmek yerine , evlendirilmeleri utancına son verilmesi için topyekun bir seferberlik kampanyası başlatılması gerektiğini söyledi. Bunun için hem Diyanet`e hem medya ve sivil toplum kuruluşlarına özellikle de Aile ve Sosyal Politikalar Bakanlığı`na büyük görev düştüğünü anlattı.
